Respite Care is one of the many living options offered at Stellar Care. Respite stays provide an option for familial caregivers in need of a break. The demands of caregiving can be exhausting and overwhelming, causing undue stress on family members acting as caregivers for their loved one. This stress can be detrimental physically and emotionally to both the person receiving care and the person giving it. Respite Care stays at Stellar Care are for 30 days.
Dementia and Alzheimer’s Respite Care at Stellar Care can also be beneficial in assessing the progression of your loved one’s dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. Respite stays provide an opportunity for the professionals at Stellar Care to help gauge what services are needed and what routine works best for your loved one. If the resident is struggling in a home environment any number of factors can contribute to changes in disposition or quality of life. A structured routine provided through a Respite stay can give the resident and their family the opportunity to reassess the level of care needed.

An example of respite care could be taking your parent to a respite care provider, such as Stellar Care, for a few hours so you can run errands or keep an appointment. While at the respite care, seniors can eat lunch, visit with residents, enjoy activities, or rest and relax. Respite care can also allow caregivers the opportunity to go on a much-needed vacation or a work trip. Finally, you can use respite care one day a week to focus on other needs such as grocery shopping, chores, and personal care.
Respite care offers short-term solutions for care when the traditional caregiver needs a break. Meanwhile, home care is non-medical caregiving and support in the client’s home. Assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, transferring, and meal preparation may be provided, as well as transportation, companionship, and other services. It excludes medical treatment and therapy. A home care aide may provide support for as little as one hour per week to as much as 24 hours per day, depending on the client’s needs.
While home care can be a permanent situation where a provider comes in to attend to an elderly person, respite care only offers a day, afternoon, or a couple of weeks, depending on the need. Respite care does not become permanent, but home care can become as frequent as necessary. Home care is frequently used as an alternative to assisted living for seniors who want to live independently, while respite care is not a replacement for assisted living; it’s more like a sitter or daycare center.
Being a primary caregiver is a difficult job, and everyone needs a break from time to time. Respite care is an excellent method to take a break from your caregiving responsibilities while remaining the primary caregiver for your loved one. Caregivers can work, perform personal errands, or go on vacation without worrying about leaving their loved one alone.
Furthermore, respite care can provide emergency help if the senior gets injured as life, making it a much safer option than leaving the elderly alone. Seniors will also receive personal attention from the respite care provider and have their needs met. Finally, respite care offers a flexible option so caregivers can still take care of elderly family members but with room to care for their own needs.
Respite care can last from one day to one month, depending on the caregiver’s needs. There is no set rule regarding how long you can use respite care. Overnight stays at a short-term assisted living facility or residential respite care facility can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Your family’s needs will determine the length of time you employ respite care. Some facilities cater to short-term stays ranging from a few hours to a few days, while others provide long-term care spanning weeks to months. Respite care stays at Stellar Care are for 30 days.
Hospice care is provided to patients who are reaching the end of their lives either from age or terminal illness. The services are offered by a team of healthcare specialists who reduce pain and meet the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of terminally ill people. While hospice can offer respite care, it can also be a long-term solution, while respite care offers a short-term solution.
Respite care for dementia can offer special care for seniors allowing them the option to interact with other individuals in a similar situation. In addition, respite for dementia can provide a safe and supportive environment while also providing activities and social opportunities. Lastly, the care can help with personal needs and work on a senior’s abilities. It’s more than just a sitter; respite care can attend to mental and physical needs to improve the quality of life.
Respite caregivers can provide care in the form of bathing, dressing, taking medication, exercise, company, outdoor time, and getting in and out of bed. Moreover, they can keep seniors safe, especially for those with dementia. They can also help with meal preparations, transportation, and light housework.
